Creating A Niche Blog Using eBay Auctions To Make Money Online

Lots of affiliate marketers are getting high payouts with eBay. Where else can you refer someone to a $1.00 item and earn a hefty $50.00+ commission? Maybe there are a few come and go CPA offers where the same could be true, but eBay has been paying me such commissions time and again.

Why Would eBay Give Such A High Commission?

You can’t expect the scenario described above to happen for every transaction of course. The commission structure from eBay is actually… up to $50 for new referrals AND up to 75% of transaction fees, or just the transaction fees if the customer is not new.

eBay has some sort of algorithm in place that determines whether or not your referral will continue to spend money on the site after the first transaction. If the feeling is that you referred a long time customer you will get $50.00 for that referral, plain and simple. If it seems to be a one time customer you will get significantly less than that.

I have no clue how the algorithm works. It could very well be based on the referrals browsing patterns prior to purchase. Maybe they placed bids on a bunch of items? Maybe they set up a “watch” on several auctions? In my experience though, I have seen the major of my new referral commissions at the highest payout when I have a tightly niched site.

As far as the up to 75% of transaction fees go, eBay bases that on the actual winning bid revenue. Often times we will be getting closer to 50% or slightly more of the transaction fees unless we target big ticket items only.

The commission structure does depend on which country’s auction you are promoting. The structure I was discussing above was based on the most popular eBay market, which is the U.S.

You Can Target All eBay’s Partner Countries Using Just One WordPress Blog

An extremely simple, cost effective way to come out of the gate strong promoting eBay auctions is to use a WordPress blog and phpbay plugin. Simply adding one line of code to a post or page will give you a list of several live eBay auctions with your affiliate links embedded. Showing live auctions isn’t just restricted to a post or page. A sidebar widget is also included where you can display a “hot item” perhaps.

In my opinion, what sets phpBay apart from competing products, such as BANS, is that you can easily apply geo-targeting and display auctions from multiple countries with just one blog.

A freely available phpBay add on plugin exists that will automatically determine the visitors country based on IP address and display only auctions for that country. The visitor will also be provided with a dropdown list should they want to see auctions from a different country in the rare instance the country was misinterpreted.

How Niche Specific Will phpBay Let You Get?

With phpBay you are able to get very specific on the auctions that you want to display. You can list auctions by keyword AND category with the added ability to add keywords that you do not want to show up.

Creating auction listings for a specific seller ID is a snap with phpBay. This is a great option for avid eBay sellers. This allows you to get referral commissions on the front end, all the while promoting your eBay auctions and getting revenue on the back end. I don’t know why more people aren’t doing this.

With the ability to show only auctions in a certain price range you can have a under $100 used laptop store for example. And please don’t get hung up on promoting big ticket items only because of the transaction fees. Regardless of the price of the item, a new customer can be worth up to $50 in the U.S. market.

Some people are doing well with city specific eBay blogs. With phpBay, you have the ability to list auctions where the seller is within a certain radius to a specific postal code. Having the ability to pick up items locally could be the “benefit” of doing eBay shopping through your blog.

I’ve only skimmed the surface of possibilities with phpBay driven blogs. The simplest approach of just adding a one page eBay shop to some of my existing blogs, which only takes all of 5 minutes, has shown quick increases in revenue.

You aren’t limited to just one usage of phpBay, you can use it on all blogs you own and on any new blogs you create in the future. Get yourself a phpbay coupon and get started for next to nothing.
