Opt-in List Building In Your Relationship Marketing Strategy

You need an email list of people who are interested in what you are offering. You need to be able to get in touch with them in order to build relationships and pitch your products and services to them. A great deal of success on the Internet depends upon maintaining relationships with people. In order to build and use an email list, you need an autoresponder.

An autoresponder is a Web service that does three things:

It lets people sign up to get on your email list. You post a sign-up form on your webpage or in an email, people fill it out and submit it, and they’re put on your list. Autoresponders have the ability to use a double opt in. After people submit the Web form, the autoresponder will send them an email requesting that they confirm that they wanted to get on your list. This protects people from being spammed by other people who submit their email addresses, and it protects you from accusations of spamming people because you have the confirmation of a double opt in.

The autoresponder sends a series of emails to people who have joined a list. These emails can be such things as a mini course with each lesson coming as a separate email. Or the first email could deliver some information that a person has requested and the subsequent emails can be sales pitches for the product or service that the information was about.

The autoresponder lets you broadcast a message to the members of the list. You can broadcast announcements of your upcoming appearances. You can broadcast announcements of the publication of your books and videos and courses. You can broadcast invitations to tele-seminars and webinars. You can broadcast issues of your e-zine. The only way you can get people to sign up to be on your list is to offer them something. You can offer them a video or audio recording. You can offer them a special report, some sort of document. You can offer them your free e-zine. You can offer them a mini course.

If you offer them a document, it may just sit around on their computer’s disc. They may not want to be receiving an e-zine — that means more emails cluttering up their inbox. An audio file or a video is a lot more engaging than a document — as long as the recording isn’t too long. With a mini course, you are offering them information they want in little pieces that arrive through email, but it’s time limited — they don’t expect the emails to go on forever. (They are mistaken.)

Why do you need to use an autoresponder? Can’t you can do this by hand? Sure you can, if your list is not too long and you don’t object to tedious work. You’ll soon decide it is worth the price to automate these tasks.

Maintaining email lists is essential for making money on the Internet. When you’re ready to make a go of your web business, sign up for an autoresponder service.

  2. When I first started out affiliate marketing I tried to save the $10 a month that the AR company was charging at the time… It was just false econony. With all the time I wasted sending out e-mails and messing about with outlook trying to make it look slick, I could have been creating more money making blogs and pay for the Auto Responder many times over!
