The chance to get away from the hustle and bustle of the hectic life of the city, makes visiting the Vaal Triangle a restful yet enjoyable experience. Located near Johannesburg, the shuttle can take you into a spot that is a perfect spot to spend a weekend or a week.

The Vaal Triangle is as you may have guessed a triangular area formed by Vereeniging, Sasolburg and Vanderbijlpark. While they make up a huge urban area, the triangle also contains many small towns that should not be overlooked. These smaller villages present you the chance to explore and enjoy the hand crafted items created by the residents. You cannot beat the chance to bargain with the many street vendors you meet along the way.

There is a great selection of hotels and in the heart of another village, Sharpeville, you will find a bed and breakfast. Businessmen can enjoy the excellent hotels with facilities to hold you private functions, or a convenient spot to journey to your clients.

The Vaal Triangle is filled with river activities such as white water rafting on the Vaal River, villages such as Heidelberg and the beautiful historic buildings that are there. On the other side is Henley on Klip which is an English village of stately demeanor.

Witwatersrand, Pretoria and the Vaal Triangle draw their water from the Vaal Dam. The Witwatersrand is the region that makes up the Greater Johannesburg metropole as well as the reef in which gold was discovered in 1886. The Dam is a popular spot for a weekend getaway or during the holidays. There is a large selection of facilities catering to those who enjoy water recreation. It is merely 70 km south of Johannesburg.

The area is also known for its many industries . The Vaal Triangle is also known for its bad air. So bad in fact, that the residents labeled it as “Vuil Driehoek”, meaning “Dirty Triangle”. While not a complimentary name, it does describe parts of the area. The great number of industry and businesses in the region make it the perfect place for the businessman to spend the week working and the weekend relaxing and enjoying all of the recreational facilities that are available. Industries that vary from food manufacturing to foundries make up the area along the Vaal River and Dam.

The quaint beauty of the small antique shops will carry a person into another era of life in the Vaal Triangle area. While primarily an industrial area during most of the twentieth century, it is now better known for its tourism industry. Although the primary resorts are in the Sedibeng Municipality, you should not totally forget towns such as Ngwather, Potchefstroom and Metsimaholo. Your visit would not be complete without a planned trip through the region to explore all of the sites and attractions available.

For first time visitors, there are a great selection of tours available to engage you in any of the activities that you may have come to enjoy in the Vaal Triangle. Now the stepping stone to Africa, the convenient proximity to Johannesburg makes it an ever increasing area of interest to tourists and businessmen.
