A widespread challenge with individuals who have tried and failed at web marketing is that they keep on jumping ship, from 1 product to another, from 1 strategy to another. One week it’s PPC, the following it’s article marketing. One month it’s list building, the following it’s social media. You’ve signed up to do the Thirty Day Challenge – again – and then another “guru” launches another “must have” strategy. This is the most widespread challenge I come across as an internet marketing coach.
The whole thing shifts so quickly in the work of web marketing it’s tricky to keep up and even more challenging to stay focussed for a long enough time to complete the projects you start.
However, if you don’t learn the habit of concluding what you start you’re going to be eternally frustrated and that IM life style you so yearn for will forever remain elusive.
Chances are, if you’ve been around the web marketing block a few times, you will have already developed the opinion that you are not skilled at concluding tasks. And right there is a great place to start.You need to develop a success mindset.
The best way to change the beliefs you have about yourself is to modify the truth about you. And that is not as difficult as it might sound. You simply need to observe more and pay better attention to that which supports you.
To modify your perception about being a poor finisher you need to begin noticing where you actually do complete tasks and start to create a track record of the tasks you do finish.
Buy a notebook and put the date and “Things I’ve Completed” at the beginning of the page. Then, as you go through the day record all the tasks you’ve finished, both for work and personal life. Fill your list with small things initially, as many as possible, so you are setting yourself up for success. As an example, five items on your list might be:
- completed key phrase research for “web marketing coach” phrase
- uploaded a blog post to my main site
- wrote an item to send to ezine article directory
- cleaned out 1 drawer in dining room
- read 2 chapters of my book
At the end of every day read your list to yourself and record your success. You’ll learn that the more you take in the tasks you complete, the more confident you’ll grow to be that you actually are a finisher. Then, 1 day, you will observe that the little steps have become a substantial completed project and your view of yourself as someone who starts things but rarely finishes them has been changed.
