I can’t believe there are still a lot of businesses and marketing people out there who are not seeing the value of twitter! And I also don’t really understand what the things that hold them back from tweet?
Sure, you can have your own reasons for not tweet, however, if you are operating a business, no matter how big or how small the size of your firm is, you shall ask someone else in your organization do the tweet in case if yourself don’t like do it.
If you still wondering toward "What can you do with only 140 characters?" You really need to re-think it again. Twitter’s 140 characters limit actually can help you write your message direct to the point, with little room for bloated or mixed messages.
Due to the fact of all the links can be sent with your tweets, you have ample opportunity to present your message in any format – from simple text to rich multimedia and video. You can really leverage twitter power to hang out with people that share your interests in any place in real-time, at the same time, you can offer opportunities for achieve deeper collaboration.
I use twitter to share marketing articles in which it might be interested to my followers, and use it tweet every time I post a new blog entry. Not only that, I also use this tool to asking for help from others (it is amazing for me to see how fast the reply I can receive every time I got into something I don’t know that I need help from others by just asking ).
Sometime I also tweet some of my own ramblings to let my followers know what I am up to, where I am, how I feel or how my day goes etc. It may look silly, but that is where the fun is.
So far, twitter not only gives me the opportunity to promote my own blog posts, which drives traffic to my site. It also helps me build credibility for my personal brand. The combined effort of all of my social networking activities has given me leads for my consulting practice and other business opportunities.
Personally I think part of the social networking purpose is to show your personal side as well as your business side. By incorporating both, you can demonstrate your personality behind the brand. You know – people want to do business with people who are alive, rather than faceless corporations.
If you ask me – do I want to know every time someone drinks coffee? No, not really. But if they share their humor or information about their non-professional interests and more personal side, they may become more memorable to me.
For my own understanding, twitter is both like another email inbox and an RSS feed of useful links and insight from PR folks, social media leaders and other news organizations. Through doing tweet, you can watch how other people use twitter, ask questions, use as a quick focus group or research avenue for your own purposes.
If you haven’t start tweet, you really should start of doing it now. Once you get on the twitter, remember to do the following:
1. Follow local people – listen what they say
2. Follow smart people – learn from them
3. Try your best to give back to others more than you get
Enjoy your tweet experience and make it a good one.
