Index Your Blog Effectively
While it’s important to get your blog indexed, it can be hard to do. The process appears to be pretty random, since some blogs take weeks to be indexed, while others get indexed almost immediately. Even though we don’t know exactly which formulas search engines use for indexing, there are some strategies that seem to work well for many bloggers.
One thing we do know for sure is that Google likes good content. Be sure to update often and include a lot of great content. If Google sees early on that you are providing interesting and relevant information, they will be much more likely to index your site. Building up this up great quality content across your niche or specific subject matter will do untold good to your ranking on the Search Engines.
Another thing that can increase your chances of being indexed is to submit your RSS feed to directories. Some sites you can consider are Feedagg.com and Feedage.com. Sites like these alert people and internet ’search spiders’ when you update your content.
You have a big advantage if you already have a network of sites – especially if you have access to a site that gets indexed often, all you need to do is post a relevant contextual link and your site might get indexed quickly as well…it’s certainly worth a try!
If you don’t have established sites, don’t worry. There are plenty out there that will let you add your own content. Sites like HubPages.com, Squidoo.com and EzineArticles.com will link your article back to your site through an author’s resource box, and that can often help get you indexed more quickly.
Another way to get indexed is to submit your blog to the search engines manually. Not everyone agrees that this is a good idea though. There are those who believe that such a submission can hurt you, and others who believe it can be regarded favorably. In any case, bear in mind that the search engines are aware that you are the one submitting the site. They would prefer to get reports on your site from others that are more established and from readers who, due to your content, publicise your site themselves across the web. That’s why it’s probably best to concentrate on getting indexed through other sites and by building a good following.
Most likely, a combination of the above steps will help you get your site indexed. Don’t be impatient however; it’s perfectly normal for a few weeks to go by before things start happening!
