Some valid points for sure, I have no problem site owners doing their own basic SEO, but do when it comes to a full on campaign. The difference is that Pro’s do SEO as a career and are on the cutting edge of SEO techniques, and always looking for the edge over the competition. Website owners usually create their websites to promote their core business, which they are good at. I think it is best that they stick to their own business, in which they are the experts, and let everyone stick to what they know best.
You could do your own dentistry or fix your own car, but its best left to a pro, even if you know how. Just my 2c worth.
